About Scientific Ink

You almost might think I’m a dilletante with a shortening attention span.

I got a doctorate in ecology (7 years), then worked for in technical writing, project management, and interface design at an R&D software company (5 years, but I think I had several jobs there), then left to start my own consulting thing (~1.5 years), mostly worked for one company as a subcontractor (~1 year). Gave up on solo stuff (too lonely) and that one company (not enough work to keep me busy as a sub or doing the work I wanted as an employee), and sought employment.

I’ve really been changing my work address recently, and each try at something new has been shorter than the last. And, I actually think I’m one of the more serious, more persistent people I know. The only qualification for a Ph.D. is pig-headedness.

All this exploration has helped me realize what I need in a work environment and taught me several things.

My goal for this space is to articulate and expand those learnings. If now and then someone reads and adds their 2-cents, even better.
