So, another sunset joy ride. This time, I decided to try opening the window and sticking the camera out into the breeze. The wind pushed in the zoom lens, so I’d have to keep my hand on it to hold the zoom. The photos are better, of course, without the layer of plexiglass and reflection, but still somehow whiter and less vibrant than my memory. I played around with the sliders in Picasa and made them look more vivid, but I feel like I’m cheating. Any thoughts?
Farm landscape photo as taken – kind of hazy/whitish
Farm landscape doctored photo – I moved the “shadows” slider to the right is this better?

It looks like the whites are there, but you lost your blacks, so I would try setting your exposure to a negative stop and see if that helps. Your camera’s light meter is probably selecting an exposure time that’s too long for the shot.
Photography is all illusion and “cheating” is the essence of its art & craft. An adjustment before or after a shot has about the same effect. I like the pictures above that are clear and have strong contrast. Others might like the gray mist. Anyway, it’s beautiful country and I’m glad you brought along a camera!
This photo got a nice mention here: http://michpics.wordpress.com/2007/07/09/farms-shadows/
